Zen and the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance

Fatherhood takes up a considerable amount of time. This gives me a wonderful excuse to stop getting any exercise. I have been pretty exhausted after: work; disrupted sleep; hours spent rocking babies; feeding, clothing, re-clothing, cleaning, mopping up after and generally running about after babies (not half as much as Mrs psifive, I hasten to add). So I said to myself, "psifive, what form of exercise can you do at home, quietly and with no specialist equipment?" (Dear me! minds in the gutter some people!)
Yes, you guessed it Yoga. No? Well for the last few weeks I've been saluting the sun, been learning my chakras from my bhandas and generally getting contorted into unusual positions in the name of good health.
And, it's rewarding too! I never knew could stand on the palms of my hands, stand on one leg and hold my big toe or even perform the plough without dying of asphyxiation but now I can! This is the book that I've been studying: Power Yoga (is it yours [info]dvae? I've no idea where it came from?).
Armed with this new found health and well-being and inspired by a certain Mr Armstrong (Lance, not Stretch, or Neil for that matter), I thought it's about time I dusted off the old velocipede and tried new and amusing (or rather old and amusing) ways to put myself in harms way.
So, this weekend saw a wheezing but remarkably happy thirty-something grinning as he threw himself down some bouldery bits of bridleway around Yorkshire and scaring the living daylights out of himself. More fun than a grown man should have on his own!
So next year The Great Yorkshire Bike Ride or Sleepless In The Saddle anyone?

I did indeed buy a book of that name once. I guess I must have lent it to you. Consider it a present now. Glad you've started a bit of yoga. I was on a six week course a few week back, but I'm taking it easy for the summer, as quite busy. Hmm, no excuse not to do some tomorrow morning.

Saw some great moutain paths yesterday that would be ideal for moutain biking.

Send my love to Mrs Psifive and psisix.

Me and Mel will be up for bike rides I reckon. We too need to get fit - even went for a jog before breakfast this morning. Not sure about yoga though, I'm creakier than a haunted house.

Cheers for your card - nice to be welcomed home.
